farmer's market. seriously?!

these people are standing in line in freezing weather waiting for the Dekalb farmer's market to open. just a normal Saturday. no special sales. this strikes me as particularly ridiculous.

Jesus vs. religion

heard about this video on NPR today on my way home from school. I like it. I think saying Jesus hates religion might be a little far, but I hear the point, and overall, I agree. what do you think? drop a comment.

I'm not here for me

If I believe in a God who desires the best for those whom He loves, and if I believe in a heaven that is better than earth, and if I believe what I believe will get me there when I am no longer here, then I must believe that I am not here for me. If I were the whole point of my life, I may as well move on to the afterlife, where my personal satisfaction will be maximized. But, God, who desires what is best for those whom He loves, has not yet chosen for me a place better than earth. My being here must somehow contribute to His plan for the best for those others whom He loves. I must believe I am not here for me.

why I won't be giving you a dollar

Dear dude on the corner,

even if i had a dollar, you would never see it for the following reasons:

1) you yelled at me from across the street.

2) you got my attention by yelling, "hey, sweetheart!"

3) you proceeded to demand, rather than ask, that I "give [you] a dollar so [you] can get something to eat."

mmm... nope.
