Lunchtime Encounter

Was walking back to work with my lunch and came across a middle-aged man sitting on a stoop hugging a red teddy bear. He looked sad. I walked by. But I couldn't shake the nudge to go back and check on him. So, I turned around.
I put my hand on his shoulder and asked, "hey, are you okay?" He looked up and stuttered, "I-I-I'm a little, I'm a little hungry."
I opened the to-go box in my hand and asked him if it looked good. I told him he could have it or I would take him to any other restaurant around to get him some lunch. He said what was in my box looked good, and it became his.
I held out a plastic fork wrapped in a napkin. He told me he was allergic to "those" and had been his whole life.
"Allergic to forks?" I asked.
"Yes," he said with a chuckle. "B-b-but, do you h-have a couple dollars so I can get some cigarettes?"
"No, I'm sorry. I have no cash."
"Okay. Thank you."
"Okay. Well, I hope you enjoy your lunch. Wait... What's your name?"
"My family doesn't believe in names."
"You don't have a name?"
"No. They don't believe in names."
"Okay. Well, it's nice to meet you. Have a nice day."

Interesting encounters in the ATL.

my spending

This is pretty stinkin cool. My spending so far in 2012 compared to Atlantans' average spending. Looks like I learn and give more than average.

here's the breakdown of my "other" category. taxes included in this category explains the negative number. No, i did not spend negative $$ on taxes, but my budget software only knows about my refund, not what was withheld from my paycheck.
and i suppose i should mention that the "kids" category is for any money i spend on my church youth group.

Chip IS the old block now.

From my fantasy baseball email update:

"Prado will likely occasionally spell the currently disabled Chipper Jones (knee, old age) at third here and there as the year goes on."

I love that Chipper's disabilities are listed as knee and old age.
lol.

In related good news, Chipper continues to amaze, despite his knee and old age. He returned from DL last night to a great job at third base and a stellar job at the plate, including a hit, a home run, and two RBIs in 4 at bats. And, Atlanta finally raked in our first win of the season. As usual, all Braves do better when Chief Chipper is in the game.

Yay, Baseball!

why I won't be giving you a dollar

Dear dude on the corner,

even if i had a dollar, you would never see it for the following reasons:

1) you yelled at me from across the street.

2) you got my attention by yelling, "hey, sweetheart!"

3) you proceeded to demand, rather than ask, that I "give [you] a dollar so [you] can get something to eat."

mmm... nope.

pacing

If you look closely, you'll notice we are behind a "pacing vehicle" on the connector. also, the speedometer reads "0." this is a great pace for downtown, don't ya think?
